At Grange we have daily English lessons which are based on the National Curriculum (September 2014) requirements: a big feature of the revised curriculum is the explicit teaching and learning of grammar and punctuation. Pupils are expected to know the correct terminology, how and when to use it and then to be able to apply it in their work consistently.
All of our teachers and teaching assistants have had grammar training to ensure subject knowledge is secure and improve pedagogy. Grammar and punctuation are taught in context during the daily English lesson and each half term pupils take a short test in Spelling, Grammar and Punctuation. Statutory government requirements now include such tests at the end of KS1 and KS2.
